A brief biography of Isaac Watts, the father of English Hymnology. Endowed with poetic abilities in childhood, this devout man of God wrote some of the greatest hymns in the English language, including, "When I Survey the Wondrous Cross," "Jesus Shall Reign Wher'er the Sun," and "Alas, and Did My Savior Bleed." Probably more of his hymns are found in the average hymnal today than that of any other author. Many years ago I found and purchased the complete works of Isaac Watts in several large volumes, printed in 1810. These have been the source of much spiritual blessing to me.
